A Bedtime Story

People who say they sleep like a baby usually don't have one. ~Leo J. Burke

Here is the Matthews Bedtime Story:

At 8:30pm "Hercules" goes to sleep in his crib (all by himself):

At 9:00pm, "Orange Head" gets 3 books, 5 songs, and a snuggle in mom's bed (so we don't wake Hercules) and then he goes to sleep in mom's bed.

Mom stays up with Dad watching TV and eating lots of unhealthy food until it's too late.

Mom goes to bed but, before hopping into the warm bed (thanks to Orange Head), she puts him on the floor with lots of cuddly blankets.

At midnight, Hercules wakes for a bottle and goes back to bed.

Mom goes to sleep.

Now the excitment begins!

At 3am, Orange Head sneaks up through the bottom of the bed (so not to wake mom and dad) and gets in the middle - putting his head in moms back and his foot in dads back. (Mom sleeps through this) At 5am Hercules wakes up and mom is so tired she will do anything for sleep that she bring him into bed with her. The count in the bed is now: 4.

Could anymore fit? Of course! Miss Black & White joins us in the bed!

Five (which means one head in her back, one 10lbs cat on her stomach and one wiggly toddler in her left arm) in the bed makes mom annoyed so around 6am Hercules is put back in the crib, Orange Head is put on the floor and Miss B&W is thrown out of the room with the door slamed shut.

Mom goes back to sleep.

At 8:30 mom wakes up only to find the bed is full of 5 again! (how did that happen?)

We all get up and enjoy our favorite "Backyardigans" and Blueberry Multigrain Waffles.
So the story goes written by a mother who once said she would never allow her children to sleep with her. We mothers eat a lot of words..... I've learned to shut up about teenagers. I don't want to eat words anymore. I just want to eat chocolate.

Good night!

Oh Heather, your life sounds wonderful, after all you could be like Uncle Jim and I and just have each other. We would give just about anything to have a baby around. Count your blessings girl. Laughed all the way thru. Keep those wonderful blogs coming....Aunt Denny

LOL I don't know why I didn't see any of your Jan posts until now. Were you back blogging or have I just been too consumed with my album project lately? ANYWAY I LOVED THIS POST! You are so funny. Very well written and oh so true. I don't want to eat any more words either - just chocolate.
