I've Been Booted

"Plowing Through Life In The Country..... one calf nut at a time" The Pioneer Woman

My mother informed me the other day that I've been booted from her #1 blog spot by THIS woman:

I was a little hurt when my mother told me this, but then I went to the website and have been swooned by this woman too. I'm officially obsessed too (so now I understand mom).

I'm going to try and get my #1 fan back by working hard to get caught up on my blog.

If I fail, I'm moving to the country and buying chickens and horses so my mom will find my life interesting. Only one hurdle stands in my way: Tom

I will just settle by buying me some cowboy boots (I'm not joking)

Busy As A Man Could Be

There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want.
~Bill Watterson, Calvin and Hobbes

I forgot to introduce you to Bishop Hansen on November the 8th
Life is continually full of surprises.
Mom - I want to remind you of your favorite quote:
"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans"
We all see the lovely irony in the fact that the cabin plans were signed off the day before he was called to be bishop. I see this as a tender mercy to my parents. It's all meant to be.

Some Matthews Traveled for Thanksgiving

"Thanksgiving, man! Not a good day to be my pants." - Kevin James

Speaking of pants...... check out these Thanksgiving pants:

(This adorable Macy's Day Parade clown is OUR famous clown Uncle Mikey)

The in-laws were grateful to have their Thanksgiving morning begin at the Macy's Parade in New York CITY!

Some Matthews Stayed Home For Thanksgiving

What we're really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?
~ Erma Bombeck

Best part of 2009 Thanksgiving: Totally Not Being On A Diet!!!

I wanted to go somewhere for Thanksgiving so bad.
Not even my smooth convincing skills could get this crowd to pull away from the Hansen House Thanksgiving tradition this year.

Grateful List for This Thanksgiving:
  • Everyone wore my cheesy black pilgrim hats that I paid my babysitter to make the night before.
  • BINGO - Heidi brought the MOST amazing prizes
  • The dessert table - complete with kettle corn
  • Having fun and laughing with the family - no matter where we were

Next Year: Thanksgiving at the New Cabin!!!
(That will be an easy one to convince everyone to go to)

Thanksgiving F.H.E.

We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude. ~Cynthia Ozick

We had the one of the Best Family Home Evenings - it was so good - we did it 2 times.

Did you know there is a scriptural account for Thanksgiving?:
1 Nephi, Chapter 13: 11-19
And I looked and beheld a man among the Gentiles, who was separated from the seed of my brethren by the many waters; and I beheld the Spirit of God, that it came down and wrought upon the man; and he went forth upon the many waters, even unto the seed of my brethren, who were in the promised land.

And it came to pass that I beheld the Spirit of God, that it wrought upon other Gentiles; and they went forth out of captivity, upon the many waters. And it came to pass that I beheld many multitudes of the Gentiles upon the land of promise; and I beheld the wrath of God, that it was upon the seed of my brethren; and they were scattered before the Gentiles and were smitten.

And I beheld the Spirit of the Lord, that it was upon the Gentiles, and they did prosper and obtain the land for their inheritance; and I beheld that they were white, and exceedingly fair and beautiful, like unto my people before they were slain.

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles who had gone forth out of captivity did humble themselves before the Lord; and the power of the Lord was with them. And I beheld that their mother Gentiles were gathered together upon the waters, and upon the land also, to battle against them. And I beheld that the power of God was with them, and also that the wrath of God was upon all those that were gathered together against them to battle. And I, Nephi, beheld that the Gentiles that had gone out of captivity were delivered by the power of God out of the hands of all other nations.

Then we read the best Thanksgiving book about the pilgrims:
Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving
by Ann Mcgovern, Elroy Freem

The story was so facinating especially after reading the scripture account of how God was with them.

The book portrayed the many hardships that the pilgrims went through - many of them died, they went hungry and were cold during the winter. They sacrificed so much.

But we know from the scripture that God was with them and leading them and yet even through the difficulty they had so much faith in God.

It was so meaningful to me.

Then we filled out slips of paper that we were thankful for, put them in cute Turkey pouches and put them in our Thanksgiving Advent Calendar. We read a "Gratitude" card each day leading up to Thanksgiving.

It was a magical Family Home Evening (well evenings, because we did it 2 times). They usually aren't so fabulous, so this one made it to the blog.

The end the wonderful evenings, we of course, had to throw some kids on the couch.
