Can Anyone Really Eat One Rice Crispie Treat?

No man in the world has more courage than the man who can stop after eating one peanut. ~Channing Pollock

To celebrate Preston's birthday at preschool he wanted to make, "Christmas Treats" Yum - my favorite. On his "4 Year Old Well Check" sheet Dr. B gave to us under "Suggested Activities for Four Year Olds" it states:

"Helping" in the kitchen and around the house.

So for his 4th birthday treats he "helped" in the kitchen - and did a pretty good job.

And I must admit cooking with Preston lead me to actually reading the instructions for Rice Crispie Treats and I learned you are supposed to remove the marshmellows from the heat source once they are melted. I did this and they were the most FABULOUS Rice Crispie Treats I have ever made. They melted in my mouth. And to add to my sweet tooth while they were still hot I added Chocolate Chips and oooohhhh yummy! So good!

Other "Suggested Activities" on the doctor's sheet was: Building "forts" or hideouts from furniture and boxes. Now when the daily request of "fort"building comes up I now happily reply, "Sure" It's what the doctor ordered ;)

That which bothers us as mothers really is a blessing. If Preston wasn't building forts, jumping on couches, helping me in the kitchen, singing songs about feelings, coloring, drawing, etc. I would be worrying.

The prime purpose of being four is to enjoy being four - of secondary importance is to prepare for being five. ~Jim Trelease, The Read-Aloud Handbook, 1985
